Earth Day 2026: A Wake-Up Call for All
Description:

On April 23, 2026, students of the senior school of Somerville School NOIDA attended a special Earth Day assembly. The programme was put together by Class XII F, with help from their teachers, Mrs Indrani Dasgupta and Mr Subir Chakraborty.
The assembly started by talking about everything the Earth gives us—like clean air and water. But it also reminded everyone that as students and citizens, we have a big responsibility. The "real" state of the world was shown today and a  realisation struck everyone  that we can no longer ignore the damage being done.
One of the most moving parts was a moment of silence. The audience was asked to think: If the Earth could talk back to us, what would it say? A video showed the contrast between the beautiful parts of nature and the parts that humans have destroyed. It made everyone stop and think about whether we are actually listening to our planet.
The students performed a courtroom drama called Earth V/S Humanity. The play explored whether human progress has gone too far and caused damage that can never be fixed. It was a powerful way to show the conflict between building new things and saving nature.
Syed Ibrahim Rizvi from Class XII gave a "TED Talk" about why Earth Day started. He warned against just "acting" like we care for one day. He also spoke about the war in the Middle East, explaining how conflict ruins the environment, not just lives.
The assembly taught the students that Earth Day isn't about feeling guilty; it’s about being honest about our choices.
The Indian Music Choir, led by Shambhunath Sir and Sutapa Ma’am, performed a beautiful song that brought a sense of hope to the hall.
Finally, the Principal, Mrs M.N Arul Raj delivered a message. She encouraged every student to take real action. She reminded everyone that we are the ones who must protect the world we live in.
