On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, a special assembly was organised at Somerville School, NOIDA to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. The Principal and a few student representatives paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri with an offering of flower petals. The programme also commemorated Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri, and the students were told about their lives, principles, and invaluable contributions to the nation.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal enlightened the children about the noble values upheld by Mahatma Gandhi, such as truth, non-violence and simplicity, and also highlighted Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri’s ideals of humility, integrity and selfless service. She further emphasised the importance of the Hindi language as a unifying force of the nation and encouraged the students to take pride in their mother tongue.

An Inter House Choral Recitation Competition with about 200 students from classes VI to VIII was also organised, with each group presenting patriotic poems, that highlighted the significance of Hindustan and the Hindi language. On this occasion, students were also made aware of the importance of Swachhta Diwas and Hindi Diwas, inspiring them to contribute actively towards cleanliness and to uphold the cultural heritage of the nation.
