The initiative by the CBSE to give the students a platform to explore their imagination, ingenuity and creativity students is indeed laudable .The CBSE Storytelling Competition for the students of classes III to XII has enabled the students to enrich their thought processes, enhance their analytical and evaluation skills as well as hones their communication skills.
Somerville School NOIDA conducted the Story Telling Competition for the students of Classes III to Classes XII from 18th November to 22nd November .The students were made to write stories on the topics specified by the CBSE for the Story Telling Competition.
Somerville School NOIDA conducted a host of activities for the students of
Classes VI to XII from 16 December 2019 to 18 December 2019 as its action
plan on water conservation. The Government of Uttar Pradesh and the Central
Board of Secondary Education has undertaken this very noble task to educate
school children about the dire need to conserve water and to impress upon
them the stark reality of an impending global water crisis. The Principal,
Mrs. M.N Arul Raj appointed the teachers of the Science department to
organise the events. The special assembly started with a prayer, seeking
God's blessings to enlighten our minds as we set out on our mission to
conserve water. Our Biology teacher gave a very inspirational introduction
highlighting the importance of conserving water, he spoke at length about
,’blue’, ’green’ and ‘grey’ water and our water footprints.
POWERPOINT PRESENTATION:
With the help of a very effective and compelling powerpoint presentation,
the students spoke in detail about the frightening scenario of water
shortage. They imparted information on the different ways in which water is
wasted and the steps that each individual should take to save water.
Detailed information about Rainwater Harvesting, treatment of waste water
and storage of water was imparted.
ENACTMENT OF A SKIT:
In order to ensure that awareness is created in a fun way, a skit was
presented by the students. The actors entertained the audience with their
talent, humour and wit as they enacted the story of a family that needed to
change their mindset and realise the extreme importance of conserving
water.
A SYMPOSIUM ON WATER CONSERVATION
was presented by ten teams. Each team presented a well researched symposium
with all the relevant statistical data and covered all the aspects of water
conservation ranging from traditional methods which can be put into
practice without a great deal of investment and efforts and can yet be very
effective. With the help of powerpoint presentation, the teams gave
comprehensive information about the main causes of water wastage namely
contamination, pollution, rising population, rapid industrialisation and
urbanisation. The importance of waste water management and the lack of
waste water management systems was emphasised. The fact that people are
ignorant of the extreme urgency to tackle this problem was brought to the
forefront. Another important issue was the replenishment of water
resources, recharging ground water and the inventions made to clean water
bodies.
A SLOGAN WRITING COMPETITION
was held and adjudged by the Principal. The students wrote very effective,
innovative and hard hitting slogans to awaken the consciousness of the
citizens of the world and shake their apathy. The students participated
with enthusiasm in the POSTER MAKING COMPETITION and designed very creative
posters .The posters brought out the alarming fact that the world is on the
brink of a water crisis and the problem has to be dealt with on a war
footing. Each and every individual has to make a concerted and conscious
effort to save every drop of water The objective of all these activities
was to make the students realise the gravity and seriousness of the problem
of the impending water shortage and the moral responsibility of saving
every drop of water. If children are made to realise that water is precious
and we need to conserve water and use it as a sustainable resource we might
be successful in averting a global catastrophe and save the very existence
of mankind on this planet.
A DANCE PERFORMANCE
that was choreographed to evoke the sanctity of water and how since time
immemorial water has been revered in India. A GROUP SONG, the melodious
lyrics of the song were very poignantly urged everyone to revere water
PLEDGE TO SAVE WATER: The Head Boy and Head Girl led the students to take a
pledge to save water, to use the natural resources wisely and judiciously.
The students and teachers of Classes VI to XII took the oath.
ADDRESS BY THE PRINCIPAL:
In a very inspirational speech, the Principal, Mrs. M. Arul inspired the
students to save water. The Principal told the students that the school had
four rainwater harvesting units and was in the process of installing four
more. She told the students that they would be taken to the site where the
new ones were being dug. The waste water of the water purifying RO Systems
was diverted and stored in tanks and this water was being used in the flush
in the toilets and for cleaning and for watering the garden .
SOMERVILLE SCHOOL NOIDA PARTICIPATES IN PARIKSHA PE CHARCHA 2020
After the stupendous and enthusiastic response to Pariksha Pe Charcha 2018 & 2019, Pariksha Pe Charcha 2020 (PPC 2020), seeks to not only take away the stress of our young students, who will be appearing for board examinations and other entrance examinations, but will also give them an opportunity to meet Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and ask him questions that they always wanted to. PPC 2020, the third edition of Pariksha Pe Charcha was launched on 2nd December 2019.
The competition was open only for students of classes 9 to 12. Participants had to write their responses on any one of the 5 themes in a maximum of 1500 characters. The students also submitted their question to Hon'ble Prime Minister in a maximum of 500 characters. The students of Somerville School NOIDA participated with great enthusiasm.
Aryabhata Ganit Challenge
was conducted by CBSE in November, 2019.It is a computer based test which
focuses on the extent to which children are able to apply mathematics in
their daily life. This challenge was conducted in two levels.
